Litti
  • is one of the most famous Snacks or Meal (as well) of Maithili people
  • In Mithila, during winter it is quite famous, especially when winter is at its peak
  • This is a low calorie, high-fiber meal for those calorie conscious people

  • However, Litti has made a special identity of Maithili
  • This dish is a regional delicacy in the Mithilanchal and specifically Bihar
  • The ancient most food of Magadh region ( the central part of Bihar, Litti had also played its own role in the history as the rebel sepoys during the Mutiny of 1857, would carry it as their staple food

  • As litti can be baked without any utensils, the mutineers virtually survived on it
  • The baked balls are cut in half and dipped in pure ghee
  • In fact, a bowl of melted pure ghee is served with the litti

  • Litti refers to the stuffed and baked flour balls served with a bowl of melted pure ghee
  • They would bake it on the metallic sieve deep inside the jungles and ravines
  • A Litti remains fit for eating for more than 48 hours
  • Prepared with flour and “Sattu” mixed with “masalas”, Liiti is made of different shapes the popular-most among them being the ball-shaped ones
  • It is prepared by twisting the palm of the maker
  • It is, ideally, baked in charcoal, wooden fuel, and cow-dung
  • Often, people fry the Litti to make it tastier
  • In the Centre of Liiti , Sattu is stuffed with a mixture of such spices like black pepper

  • Thymol ( ajwine), Ginger, Garlic, Mustard Oil, Lemon Juice and Salt are placed
  • It is eaten with Chokha (which is like a side dish)
  • Chokha is prepared by tomato, brinjal, and potato
  • It is crispy and golden brown
  • It is a traditional recipe, which may be a little time consuming to prepare
  • The uniqueness of this dish lies in its preparation method
  • It is cooked traditionally
  • This dish is served hot
